Following his wife's death, Michael Endicott moved with his three daughters from Iowa to Rome, Italy, to teach at the American Overseas School. His sister, Harriet, briefly joined them before returning to Iowa. In the second season, Michael's father-in-law, Andy Pruitt, visited from Iowa, having sold his farm, and took up residence in their apartment.
