Meanwhile, the leader of the Black Serpent Trading Company, Ruili, suffers defeat as her subordinates flee under Klaus’s assault. Klaus and the pirates break down the door to the brothel where Ruili had been hiding. Even Adam, one of her presumed allies who appeared to have come to her aid, had been forcibly drugged with a powerful stimulant handled by the Black Serpent Company— transforming him into a creature driven solely by primal instincts. His target: his own master, Ruili. At last, Klaus declares himself king, announcing to the people that a new pirate kingdom—governed by the law of the strong devouring the weak—has been born. "Those captured will continue to be exploited as sacrifices, all in the name of the kingdom’s further prosperity..."
