Synopsis

Macross Delta is set in the year 2067, 8 years after the events of the latest Macross TV series, Macross Frontier. The story focuses on Walküre, a team of talented idols and the Delta Squadron, a team of experienced Valkyrie pilots as they battle against the Var Syndrome, a mysterious phenomena that is consuming the galaxy and there is also the mysterious Aerial Knights Valkyrie fighter team of the Kingdom of Wind.

Looking to escape the confines of an arranged marriage on her home planet, Freyja Wion stows away on a cargo ship, hoping to follow her dreams and audition for the Walkure Tactical Music Unit. She's discovered by Hayate Immelmann, a young dock worker and drifter with no particular dreams of his own. After an outbreak of the deadly Var Syndrome strikes, the Walkure Unit appears on the scene, and the power of Freyja's music is awakened. **NOTE**: This is a "New Year's Eve Special Preview" version of Episode 1 that aired on 2015-12-31. It was only 89% complete at the time of airing, hence the title "Mission 0.89." The creators noted that there is more to this episode after the final scene.
