Synopsis
The Enigma Files is a British television detective drama that ran for a single series of fifteen episodes in 1980. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Lewis is tasked with investigating unsolved crimes.

Phil Strong visits Stanton, looking into a pair of forged paintings owned by Harry Brookeway. When Brookeway is found dead and Phil standing over him, he is arrested for murder which is convenient for everyone.

Two hit men have Peter Wolfe in the sights when he sees DCI Lewis and takes off running. A hour later his body is pulled out of the canal except when Lewis attempts to view the body he is thwarted.

High flying company secretary Pam Knowland asks Nick Lewis to help her get a blackmailer who is threatening to give information to their clients. Knowland is terrified that her ex-husband crimes would destroy her current business.

Phil Strong recovers fingerprints from a batch of stolen watches which belong to Phil Singer, who died twelve years previous. DCI Lewis discovers Singer has a daughter and decides to use her to root him out.

Nick Lewis ex-wife Pauline is arrested at the airport when a .22 pistol is found in her bag. The gun is later linked to the Wesminster Bank job where someone was killed. Lewis is convinced she has been fit up.

Ep. 14: The Full Flying Carpet Treatment
The brother of Sheik Ibn Essif, Hussein has made plans to kidnap him to stop attending a conference in London. The Sheik has escaped one attack but is in hospital. Returning valuable possessions, Nick is kidnapped by mistake.

Ep. 15: Backtrack
When Nick Lewis returns from holiday he discovers his replacement D.S Dennis Kates has died in a car accident. According his wife, Kates was going solve a case that D.C.I Lewis had made a mistake on.
