  Andréa Vargas receives the Prêmio de Moda Brasil. A few hours earlier, Letícia provokes her mother, Julia, saying that she is envious of her sister Andréa's wealth and fame. Isaura begs Mercedes to tell Andréa who her mother is. Julia listens behind the door. Andréa accuses her sister of being envious. Julia throws in Andréa's face that she was adopted. Diogo remembers Andréa. Under the influence of a sedative, Andréa faints during the awards ceremony.

  Diogo grabs and kisses Andréa. Enraged, she slaps him. Andréa remembers Diogo trying to stop her marriage to Bruno. Sandro photographs Gabriela. Andréa waits for Bruno, who is at Selma's house. When he arrives, she grabs him. Bruno says that Andréa only wants to have a child. Andréa promises Letícia that she will get a good lawyer for Renato.   Andréa threatens to call the police. Diogo kneels in front of Andréa's car. Then, he takes her to his boat and promises to love her for the rest of his life. Sophie flirts with Chico, and Júlia warns him that he's a total jerk. Júlia seeks out Andréa to tell her what's happening. The two reconcile and hug. Virgínia seeks out a fortune teller. Ariel asks everyone to leave so he can meet Virgínia alone. Selma goes to Andréa's house.

  Selma insists she did everything out of love for Bruno. Andréa throws her out of the house. Ariel greets Virgínia with flowers. Virgínia puts a magic powder in his drink. Ariel starts experiencing strange sensations and attacks Virgínia. The next morning, he wakes up with amnesia. Nicolau calls Gabriela a liar. Júlia is upset to learn that Chico has returned to Fernanda's house. He explains that he's there to take care of Mateus and that his ex-wife is traveling. Diogo is shocked to learn that he is Nicolau's real father.

  Letícia advises Nicolau to look for his father. He tries to kiss her, but she escapes. Isaura goes to Selma's mansion and tells her to leave Andréa alone. He takes her in his arms and kisses her passionately. Letícia, shocked, sees the scene. At the nightclub, Diogo goes looking for Nicolau.

  Nicolau doesn't want to talk to Diogo. Ariel turns pale when they insist on telling him he made love to Virgínia. Chico gives Júlia a ring that belonged to his mother. Selma is furious to learn that, with Diogo's help, Andréa will participate in Fashion Week. Selma hides on Diogo's boat and, while he sleeps, unties the moorings, taking the boat out to sea.

  Diogo argues with Selma when he sees her on the boat. She jumps into the sea, injures her leg, and almost drowns. He jumps in to rescue her, and the boat drifts away. The two end up on an island. Andréa is shocked when Diogo reveals he was with Selma.

  Beto forces Gabriela into his car. Gabriela threatens Beto with the police, but he reminds her that she was also involved in past problems. Beto enters the apartment; Xana and Tati pretend not to notice Rafael's presence, but he hears the noise in the room.

  Andréa storms onto the catwalk, accusing Antônia of stealing her collection, and is booed. Diogo removes her from the catwalk. Antônia is applauded at the end of the show. Andréa sees Isaura talking to Selma. Antônia gives interviews. Chico sees a man with a Santa Claus tattoo following Júlia. Andréa slaps Selma. Chico goes to Júlia's house and says he will defend her to the end. Beto offers Letícia a ride. Isaura is distraught when Andréa accuses her of stealing the sketches.

  Isaura leaves, assuring Andréa that she didn't steal the drawings. Gabriela makes love with Beto. Virgínia is certain she's pregnant with Ariel's child. Diogo and Ariel decide to investigate Isaura's life, who threatens to go to the newspapers and tell everything, even that her brother was arrested for a crime she committed. Bruno and Antonia have sex. Gabriela is pleased to learn that Nicolau has a millionaire father. Renato warns Chico that his life is in danger. Vavá pretends to be Chico Maia and takes a woman to bed. Mindinho and Zezão mistakenly take Vavá. Júlia goes to Chico's house and finds a gagged woman; she says Chico has been taken.

Selma tells Antônia that Bruno is having an affair. Andréa, disguised, goes to the studio. Renato and Vavá try to escape but fail. Chico gets hit on the head with a stick. Antônia is shocked to see Andréa.

  Andréa tries to convince Antônia to confess everything. Hidden, she hears Selma complaining that Bruno isn't coming home early. Coelho demands that Chico hand over the evidence against him. Júlia is overwhelmed with worry. Zezão points a gun at Vavá. Handcuffed, Chico and Renato manage to disarm Mindinho. Vavá hits Zezão with a stick. The three escape. Ariel starts having cravings. Vavá hides in a henhouse. Renato confesses that he turned Chico in. Coelho shoots Chico, Renato steps in front, takes the bullet, and they both fall off a cliff.

  Julia has a bad feeling and asks her children to pray. Renato is injured. Chico thanks him for saving his life. Selma orders a new car, and Bruno tells her to cancel the purchase. Diogo offers millions to Selma to convince Bruno to sell the atelier and the brand. Selma tells Diogo that she is in love with him. Julia asks the doctor for news.

  Renato cries when he realizes he is paralyzed from the waist down. Júlia affirms that they will fight together so that he can regain his movement. Renato insists that he doesn't want Júlia to stay by his side out of pity, but she reaffirms her love and companionship for her husband. Júlia reacts upon learning that Renato saved Chico's life. Selma puts a pill in Diogo's drink. He loses consciousness; she, in lingerie, lies down on the bed. Andréa, who is waiting for Diogo for dinner, gets tired of waiting and decides to go to the boat. Arriving there, she is horrified to see a woman in bed with Diogo.

  Andréa sees Selma in bed with Diogo and leaves. Chico says goodbye to Júlia. Renato insists that Júlia not stay with him out of pity. Chico resigns. Diogo breaks into Selma and Bruno's house.

  Selma manages to disarm Beto and approaches him provocatively. Selma tells Bruno that their marriage is over. She sleeps with Beto and pays him to teach Bruno a lesson. Selma tells Antônia that she has resigned. Beto, hooded, invades the house, points the gun at Bruno and orders Selma to tie her husband's and the butler's hands. Then, he takes the jewels and kisses Selma. Beto threatens to shoot Bruno.

  Bruno begs not to be killed. Selma breaks free and attacks Beto, who runs away. Bruno, emotional, thanks Selma for saving his life and begs her not to leave.   Marlene sees Selma hand a check to Euzeni, who is then kicked out by Andréa. Beto takes the jewels to a fence. He arrives in a new car. Ariel gives an interview and confirms he is gay. Chico receives a threatening phone call, seeks out Renato, and confesses he's thinking of handing over the evidence against the criminals. The models take care of Rafa, while Gabi has fun with Beto at a motel. Bruno calls Antônia "Selma," and she storms out. Bruno rushes to Selma's apartment.

  Bruno pounds on Selma's door, but she doesn't open it. Bruno breaks up with Antônia. Ariel is front-page news. A homosexual demonstration joins the mob of angry women. Selma orders Beto to follow Euzeni. Andréa receives Euzeni, who confesses she's willing to tell everything. Kléber delivers a summons to Coelho Leite's secretary. Matheus meets his new neighbor, Gilda. The press waits gathered at Andréa's house. Suddenly, a car speeds towards Euzeni.

  Euzeni is run over. Apolinário informs Andréa about the accident. Marlene senses that she was murdered. Selma promises to pay Beto the next day. Coelho Leite orders his henchmen to scare Chico. Disguised as a doctor, he enters Renato's room and threatens Bernardo and Letícia. Diogo prevents Selma from boarding his boat and accuses her of murder. Desperate, she walks away crying. The henchmen invade Vavá's house.

  The henchmen search but don't find Matheus and leave. Gilda unties Vavá, who prefers not to press charges until Chico arrives. Andréa suffers thinking that Selma may have murdered her mother. Andréa discovers that Isaura has been transferred. Júlia convinces Renato to try the wheelchair; disheartened, he cries. Bruno begs to get back together with Selma; she imposes a condition: that he marry her.

  Isaura calls Atílio and Andréa, but no one answers. Selma gets angry when she finds out her mother ran away and gives Andréa's address to the nurses, who capture Isaura. Júlia explains to Chico that she can't stay with him. Kléber informs Antônia that he received a report that her car was used to run over Euzeni. Selma assures Kléber that Antônia was with her at the time of the accident. Selma explains to Antônia that she will only be her alibi if she doesn't help Andréa. Beto threatens to tell Bruno everything.

  Selma grabs Beto. Gabriela confesses to Xana that Beto makes her life very confusing. Selma proposes that Beto kill Bruno and offers him US$100,000; he decides to think about it. Apolinário proposes to Marlene. Bruno makes a will naming Selma as his sole heir, much to her delight. Diogo suggests to Andréa that they open a shop. Nicolau talks to Gabriela, much to Letícia's annoyance. Chico goes to Júlia's house. Judite sees Chico kissing Júlia.

  Judite swears she will tell Renato everything. Júlia sends Chico away. Camila kisses Pablo. Beto snubs Gabriela and strikes up a conversation with Letícia. She kisses him when she sees Nicolau approaching. Diogo decides to help Hélio change his look. Renato is furious when he finds out about the kiss. He asks Júlia to disappear from his life. Gabriela tells Letícia to stay away from Beto. Andréa reads a note in the newspaper about Bruno and Selma's wedding. Beto agrees to kill Bruno.

  Julia leaves, devastated. Nicolau tells Letícia he loves her, but she asks for some time. Hélio gets all dressed up to impress Patty. Andréa tries to get information about Isaura. Virgínia gets another love potion from Madame Safira. She puts the powder in Ariel's tea, but Tadeu drinks it instead. He becomes macho and chases after Virgínia, Bárbara, and Patty. Chico and Gilda kiss. Bárbara hits Tadeu on the head, knocking him unconscious. Selma gives Beto part of the money and orders him to shoot Bruno in the back of the neck.

  Selma orders Beto to mug Bruno as he leaves work. Chico tells Gilda he's experiencing an impossible love. Upset, she sends him away. Tadeu wakes up and everyone treats him badly. Beto takes Gabi and Rafinha out to lunch. Hélio takes Patty to a repentista show. Joaquim arrives and makes a jealous scene, but she leaves with the sailor. Judite asks Gongon to come work at her house to take care of Renato. Isaura writes a letter to Andréa. Selma orders Bruno to go home alone. On the way, Beto points a gun at the businessman.

  Beto, nervous, can't shoot Bruno, who steals the gun. Selma hears a gunshot. Beto flees bleeding; Gabriela helps him. Selma suspects that Diogo and Andréa may be plotting against Bruno. Diogo asks Antônia for help to prove that Selma is involved in the attempted murder of Bruno. Isaura begs a nurse to mail the letter she wrote to Andréa, but Selma tears it up. Diogo follows Selma and observes her talking to Beto.

  Selma forces Beto to kill Bruno. Diogo follows Beto to a hotel. Bruno borrows Selma's car, and she begins to devise a new plan. Renato leaves the hospital. Antônia accuses Selma of trying to kill Bruno. Selma threatens to call the police and frame Antônia for Euzeni's death. Gabriela tells Nicolau that Letícia likes Beto. Diogo stays at the hotel and overhears Selma and Beto plotting Bruno's murder.

  Andréa considers calling the police, but Diogo thinks the best solution is to look for Bruno. Selma buys sleeping pills. Diogo tries to talk to Bruno, but gets punched. Tadeu insinuates that Bill might have something going on with Virgínia, but she denies it. Selma puts a sleeping pill in Bruno's drink. Beto sabotages the businessman's car. Bruno feels unwell while driving, tries to brake, but can't.

• Ep. 88: Chapter 88 (2002-05-02)
  

  The car crashes into a wall. Bruno collapses onto the steering wheel, unconscious. Beto spreads gasoline on the car and Bruno's clothes, but when he goes to light it, he hears a scream and runs away. Diogo and Andréa rescue Bruno and take him to the hospital. Selma sees her wrecked car and realizes that Beto made another mistake. Diogo instructs Andréa not to give Bruno's real name at the hospital so that Selma won't find him. Bruno wakes up and refuses to speak to Andréa. Nicolau serenades Letícia, who appears at the window. Selma slaps Beto. Bruno goes to Andréa's house, and she tells him that Selma tried to kill him.

  Bruno admits that deep down he already knew, apologizes for everything, and assures everyone that he truly loved Andréa once. Selma feels cornered. Antônia receives a call from Bruno. Gabriela sells the ring she received from Beto. Virgínia tells Tadeu that Bill is interested in him. Bruno assures everyone that he will get revenge on Selma. In Virgínia's room, Tadeu waits for Bill under the covers. Bill runs out. Selma packs her bags, but as she leaves the house, she encounters Bruno.

  Bruno plays the loving husband, leaving Selma completely confused. Isaura is thrilled to read in the newspaper that Diogo and Andréa are getting married. Cristiano sees Bill sleeping in a tree. Antônia insists that Bruno should turn Selma over to the police. Bill has a fit when Ariel says he's prepared a double room for him and Tadeu. Bill asserts his manliness, and Tadeu loves it. Bruno and Selma secretly buy guns. Bruno arrives home and puts the gun in his waistband. Selma puts the dagger in her garter. They kiss.

  Bruno grabs the revolver when Selma goes to the closet, but doesn't shoot. Judite tells Bernardo that Júlia has a boyfriend. Ariel proposes to Virgínia. Antônia tells Bruno that Selma used her car to kill Euzeni. Selma goes to Beto's hotel; Bruno watches her. She asks Beto to find someone to blow up Bruno's car. Bruno points a revolver at Beto.

  Beto swears he was threatened by Selma and begs for mercy. Selma, impatient, waits for Bruno. Beto agrees to work for Bruno, who decides to blow up the car, but with Selma inside. Judite provokes Júlia, who rubs a cake in her mother-in-law's face. Bill asks Virgínia for one last kiss before leaving. Cristiano catches them together. Bruno and Beto make a plan with Xavier, an explosives expert. Júlia gets emotional when she arrives home and hears Renato's voice.

Selma arrives at that moment, returning the child. Chico goes to Julia's house and is embarrassed to see Renato. Xavier plants the bomb in Selma's car. Upon learning that Afrânio left with Bruno's car, Selma runs and is surprised to see that the car didn't explode. She then gets into her own car.

  Selma discovers the bomb under her car and flees. Bruno tries to follow her, without success. Selma buys a gun. Renato insists on knowing if Júlia really doesn't want anything to do with Chico. Selma doesn't find Beto at the hotel. Antônia insinuates that Bruno may have killed Selma. Júlia begs Chico to forget her. Selma checks into a hotel and sends Emanuel to collect her jewelry and money, demanding secrecy. Bruno follows Emanuel. Tadeu surprises Bárbara embracing Bill. Bruno breaks into Selma's room.

  Selma points the revolver at Bruno. She accuses him of trying to kill her, but he denies it. Bruno pays Xavier to finish off Selma once and for all. She asks Afrânio for help, who pretends to be interested in helping her, but doesn't answer her calls. Worried about disappearing, Selma takes the first bus leaving the bus station; Xavier follows the bus. At the bus stop, Selma fights with Xavier, who hits her. She grabs an electrical wire and manages to shock the bandit.

  Xavier falls unconscious. Selma, injured, walks along the road. Andréa goes to Bruno's house looking for Selma, trying to find out Isaura's whereabouts. Selma hitches a ride with a truck driver. Bruno remembers Isaura and tells Antônia that Andréa and Selma are sisters. Selma returns home. Bruno gets angry when Xavier informs him that the job wasn't done. Selma puts on her wedding dress, brandishes the knife, and threatens Bruno.

  Bruno fights with Selma, manages to take the knife from her, and drags her out of the house. Selma wanders along the beach with her torn wedding dress. Virginia and Ariel plan their wedding. Selma eats leftovers from a garbage can. Everyone arrives for Andréa and Diogo's wedding. Chico takes Júlia aside and kisses her, infuriating her. Bill manages to steal Virginia's fake pregnancy belly. Bárbara kisses Bill again, and Tadeu catches them again. Bill assures Bárbara that he is gay. Virginia doesn't let Ariel touch her belly. Selma arrives at the wedding.

Bill sleeps fully clothed next to Tadeu. Beto persists with Letícia, and she is disturbed when he kisses her. Bruno proposes to Antônia. Bárbara starts to find Tadeu attractive and proposes that they have a child. Isaura appears to Selma asking her to help Andréa. Bruno discovers that Antônia is on the boat. Renato looks for Júlia.

  Renato asks Júlia to come back to him and tries to kiss her. Selma kisses the Mother Superior's hand, who authorizes her to pursue a religious career. Diogo pays Afrânio to transfer the company to his name. Diogo takes possession and surprises Bruno.

Diogo puts a revolver to Bruno's neck and orders him to drive away.

Ariel sells the house but, at the last minute, changes his mind. Bruno puts some drops of medicine in Andrea's drink, making her fall asleep. Bruno follows Selma's lookalike, discovers her name is Karen, knocks on her apartment door, and she opens it.

  Karen is surprised when Bruno calls her Selma, and Vitor goes to confront him. Virginia puts up a rope separating the two groups in the house. Virginia and Ariel eat shrimp. Bill proposes a revolution. Bruno follows Karen and forces her to talk to him.

The henchmen capture Beto and demand the money back. A tribunal is set up at Ariel's house, and Bill is banished from the house. Rafael is left alone on the street and is rescued by a woman. The car, in which Beto and Gabriela are gagged, is pushed into a lake.

  Bruno's henchmen watch the car sink. Bruno celebrates. Beto manages to free himself and tries to untie Gabriela, but runs out of breath. Bruno invites Karen to spend the night with him. Nicolau and Xana are devastated by Gabriela's death. Bill enters the house pretending to be Tadeu's Russian cousin, Yuri. Beto confronts Bruno and announces that it's time for revenge.

Selma sees Bruno giving Andréa some kind of medicine. Kléber opens Diogo's cell door.

  Diogo escapes from prison. He asks Hélio to free Andréa. Renato leaves for work. Bárbara announces she's tired of being a modern woman and wants to be the queen of the home. Kléber breaks into Bruno's house and arrests Noronha. Bruno tells Selma he's tired of his life with Andréa. Bárbara resigns from her position as editor of the magazines. Ariel appoints Júlia to the position, leaving Chico disappointed. Hélio discovers that Andréa will be in a fashion show for his new collection. Diogo kidnaps Andréa.

  Andréa begs Diogo to take her back. Ariel asks to postpone the insemination. Bruno orders his henchmen to follow Hélio. Bill tells Bárbara he won't marry her. Andréa returns home with Bruno, but the next morning decides to go to a hotel. Bruno insists she won't go. Júlia and Diogo report that Andréa is being held captive. Selma breaks into Andréa's house.

  Andréa remembers accusing Selma of her mother's death. Selma switches the pills Bruno uses to drug Andréa. Ariel schedules the insemination. Selma goes to Bruno's house and hugs him, knocking over an object. Andréa wakes up and catches them hugging.

  Andréa begins to remember everything that happened and faints. Atílio obtains a court order to remove Andréa from the house. Andréa puts medicine in Bruno's wine. Chico and Júlia make up. Andréa tries to call, but the wires are cut. Bruno wakes up and looks for her.

  Bruno appears as Andréa is trying to leave. Marlene screams upon seeing Selma, who introduces herself as Karen. Chico and Júlia argue again at work, and he threatens to quit. Diogo is arrested. Andréa watches Bruno and sees him receive a gun. Atílio, Kléber, and Júlia, with a court order, go to get Andréa. Bruno decides to flee, and Andréa warns him he's going to jail.

Júlia goes to take care of Letícia, who has the flu and is sleeping at Renato's house. Chico is furious. Bruno confesses to Andréa that he was the one who killed her mother.

Ariel hires Bill as a butler. Selma swears she believes Bruno.

  Karen/Selma says she's separated from her partner and offers to help Bruno. Chico asks Júlia to come home. Bruno arranges a meeting with Atílio. When he arrives home, Atílio finds Kátia held hostage. Bruno orders Atílio to give the password, or Kátia will die.

  Bruno cocks the gun and forces Atílio to type the password into the computer. Five million dollars are transferred to his account. Bruno tells Selma that they will travel together the next day. Selma follows Bruno and then calls Kléber, giving him Andréa's whereabouts. Chico meets with Gilda, who assures him that she has already forgiven him. Andréa frees herself from the ropes and hides. The police find Selma in the street. Selma leaves. Bruno searches for Andréa with the gun in his hand.

  Bruno runs away and gets a ride on the road. Kléber finds Andréa, who returns home. Diogo is released thanks to Andréa's testimony, and the two meet. Bárbara and Virgínia's wedding dresses arrive. Andréa reveals to everyone that Selma didn't kill her mother. Célio gives Bruno fake passports. Chico asks Júlia to come back, leaving her confused. Everyone celebrates Andréa's return with a party. Karen and Bruno leave for Miami. Diogo and Andréa kiss.

  Andréa confesses to Diogo that she feels guilty about Selma's death. Bill reveals to Rachel that he switched Bárbara and Virgínia's insemination vials. The double wedding begins at Ariel's house. Bill reveals in the middle of the ceremony that he switched the insemination vials, but Bárbara says she reversed the switch, and the wedding goes ahead. Júlia talks to Renato, and they end up kissing. Karen reveals to Bruno that she is Selma.

  Selma stabs Bruno in the back, and he dies in agony. She flees with the diamonds. Júlia tells Renato she won't move back in with him. The hotel maid in Miami finds Bruno. Ariel tells Virgínia that you can't have everything in a marriage. Ariel authorizes Rachel to take Patty to London. Selma gives the diamonds to Diogo. Virgínia almost faints when she sees Margareth, Tadeu's iguana. Diogo takes Selma to meet Andréa. The two embrace emotionally. Andréa is horrified to learn that Bruno is dead. Bruno arrives in Rio.

  Bruno enters the apart-hotel room. Ariel orders everyone to accept each other's differences and eccentricities. Andréa decides to transform the mansion into a school for underprivileged children. Bruno fights with Emanuel and then flees. Selma screams upon learning that Bruno is still alive. Andréa recoils upon seeing Bruno, who demands her diamonds and takes her away. Diogo agrees to exchange the diamonds for Andréa. Bruno points the gun at Andréa's head, orders Diogo to follow him, but, realizing Nicolau is behind them, shoots the boy. The police arrive, but Bruno manages to escape with Andréa.

  Bruno holds Andréa hostage. Bruno and Selma duel. Chico and Júlia decide to stay together. A party hosted by Ariel celebrates life and the loves built throughout the story.
