Synopsis
Beauty Knows No Pain is a 2010 Hong Kong television drama. Produced by Lam Chi-wah and co-edited by Suen Ho-ho and Chan Kam-ling, the drama is a TVB production. The show premiered on July 26, 2010, and is slated to air for 20 episodes five nights a week. The drama follows the lives of three women — Jackie, Mrs. Cash, and BiBi, portrayed by Maggie Cheung Ho-yee, Michelle Yim, and Joyce Tang respectively — who work in the same cosmetics production company, Paris Donna San-Malo Donna.

Ep. 1: Episode 1
Today is SA YUEN KEI’s first day at work. When she steps into the office, CHI NAM and other colleagues are teasing at YU MAN YAU, who is well known for her outstanding body figure. The team discuss about the allocation of four booths for their cosmetic lines. HUNG SAN WU, another brand manager, picks up a verbal fight with senior brand manager WONG HOI KING, putting general manager LAM KA MAN at an awkward situation. SA YUEN BIU, KEI’s cousin, has recently been fired. He plans to go to Darfur to sell petroleum with a good friend. His father, SA CHEUNG, supports him, but KEI does not. KEI’s mother reminds her not to spend all her time at work but to go out with someone. This makes her think of her relationship with her old boss KO CHI LIK in the past. WU and MAN discover that cosmetic products similar to theirs are being sold in the market. KING says she will handle the matter……

Ep. 2: Episode 2
The girls at the company so all they might to please the good-looking LIK. KEI bumps into LIK and his wife at lunch. It happens that she knows his wife, SO NA. KEI and LIK wish to throw a fashion show at a high-end shopping mall to promote two brands. Owner of the mall, MR. LING, turns down their proposal. When KEI meets MR. LING’s daughter, KITTY, later, she manages to talk her into persuading MR. LING. Adopting WU’s suggestion, MR. LING lets KITTY be the model of the fashion show. As a result, KEI and KIK have to try hard to make KITTY drop the idea. CHIN KWONG LUNG uses a pregnancy test stick to see whether his wife is pregnant. DANNIEL, KITTY’s boyfriend, tells her not to be a model any longer when he learns that she is trying to cut down her weight. KEI stands by KITTY. She even accuses LIK of abandoning her years ago in front of everyone.

Ep. 3: Episode 3
KEI apologizes to KING for making herself a laughing stock at the studio. Everybody is talking about her when she leaves KING’s room. Meanwhile, LIK shows up. He claims KEI and him were just putting on a show the other day. KING wants to have a baby. Her doctor assures her that he will try his best to make her dream come true. KEI is unhappy that the marketing department pays so much attention to KING’s brands but ignores hers. She announces she is going to put forward another proposal. Worrying that YAU’s boyfriend, Tony, will cheat on YAU, KEI asks YAU about her love stories in the past. KEI’s mother calls and tells her BIU is being knocked up on the Mainland. KEI wants to go to the Mainland on her own; YAU volunteers to go with her. WU finds YAU’s cells phone in the washroom and learns about KEI’s plan for KITTY. The papers report widely on KITTY. MR. LING is so furious that he wants to stop his cooperation with KEI.

Ep. 4: Episode 4
KING, KEI and LIK gather at MAN’s room trying to think of a way to settle KITTY’s issue. LIK thinks KEI should do something to redeem the company’s image and make up for her fault. LUNG has hired a feng shui master to set up a formation at home that will make KING pregnant. Inspired by their husband and mother’s words respectively, KING and KEI decide to use an ordinary person as their model. YAU is away. WU therefore comes to know that KING plans to hire the prestigious make-up artist BOBBY for the fashion show. She even manages to beat KING to it. KEI is so careless that she has soiled her dress. NA saves her from embarrassment. KEI wants to apologize to KITTY and invites her to be her model. She is surprised to know that KITTY has abandoned herself. KING is upset that her parents blame her over BIU. Later, she runs into KITTY.

Ep. 5: Episode 5
WU wants to borrow KING’s staff. The latter agrees readily. KEI asked KING why she had to lend her to WU. She also complains how WU has made a fool of her. KEI has a severe tummy ache. The doctor says the fibroid tumor in her uterus has grown bigger and suggests her to have a few tests. WU discovers that NAM has secretly videotaped the girls at the office as they go into the washroom, and that KING has confiscated the camera. KING has gone out for a meeting. WU sneaks into her room. The doctor tells LUNG and KING the best timing for KING to get pregnant has come. Just when the couples are going to make love with each other, BOBBY visits them out of the blue. The show is over. KING, KEI and KING rush to the emergency room for different reasons. When the nurses draw apart the curtains between them, they are surprised to see…

Ep. 6: Episode 6
The team discuss about the marketing strategy for Christmas. WU announces she has secured four advertisement pages at a well-known magazine. KEI has joined a yoga class. She is surprised to see that her tutor is NA. KEI’s parents, brother and sister-in-law all gather at her place. It turns out that YAU, who is staying at her place temporarily, has told them she has taken ill. With KEI’s help MAN has finally let KING go on a holiday. LIK’s magazine interview has been called off. He asks KEI why she does not try to inform KING. KEI decides not to tell him KING went on a holiday so as to patch up her marriage. YAU and TONY have reconciled with each other. YAU finds a pair of lady’s briefs that do not belong to her at TONY’s place. In order to alienate KEI and KING, WU offers one advertisement page to KEI.

Ep. 7: Episode 7
Returning from her holiday, KING claims she knew nothing about the cancellation of the magazine interview. She also says she has never asked KEI to take care of her brands. KING refuses to fund the shooting of an advertisement. KEI argues with her. Seeing this, WU invites KEI to go to Rome with her. YAU sees NAM and GRANNY SWEET at a dessert cafe. NAM does not let GRANNY SWEET order anything, so YAU draws him away with a trick. KEI has left her cell phone at the yoga club. When she goes back to get it, she overhears NA talking to her boyfriend on the phone. WU discovers that KEI and KING are sharing the advertisement page she offered KEI earlier.

Ep. 8: Episode 8
YAU has been rushed to the emergency room. The doctor says she has broken her nose. NAM asks WU to compensate for YAU. SUK TAK wants to find someone to bear a child for LUNG. KING tells her she is pregnant. NA is upset by her love troubles. KEI cheers her up. She even buys her a hotel package so that she can spend a romantic evening with her lover. Later, she discovers that NA has not invited LIK to the hotel. She tells LIK someone is running after NA. MRS. LAFA watches STEPHY shoot for the advertisement of her products. She ends up leaving in anger after being provoked by STEPHY. KING takes STEPHY to shop so as to talk her into apologizing to MRS. LAFA, not realize until then why STEPHY has been making things difficult for her.

Ep. 9: Episode 9
KING tells LUNG she has learnt about STEPHY. STEPHY’s sister, TERESA, goes to KEI’s office to apologize for what STEPHY has done. STEPHY appears suddenly. Refusing to say sorry, she tells everyone her relationship with LUNG. LUNG and TAK have been trying their best to persuade KING but she will not change her mind about getting an abortion. KEI and LIK bump into his parents, YAN TAI and KA PIK, as they leave the office. PIK thinks KEI is the woman who ruined LIK’s marriage. NAM suggests YAU to have a plastic surgery. She invites him to go to the clinic with her. LUNG and KING clarify at a movie premiere that STEPHY is not his other woman. With photos of TERESA taken in the past, KEI and LIK make STEPHY agree to apologize to MRS. LAFA.

Ep. 10: Episode 10
MAN worries that he will lose his job if MRS. LAFA takes back her two brands. WU comes up with a solution. MAN likes her idea very much. Everybody is surprised to see what a beauty KEI has become. NAM takes credit for this. KEI sneaks into the hotel MRS. LAFA is staying a few times but still fails to see her. LIK tells her MRS. LAFA is willing to see him. LIK’s parents are waiting for him at the hotel. KEI reveals to them why NA would like to divorce LIK. KEI is furious to learn that KING plans to emigrate. With the help of LIK, KEI manages to talk MRS. LAFA into dropping her decision of taking back her two brands. MAN announces that KEI will take over KING’s brands.

Ep. 11: Episode 11
KING finds the FMCG team as unorganized as the workplace the first day she joins it. NAM promises to keep LIK’s divorce a secret. But the girls flock to LIK as soon as he shows up the next day. YAU is in debt because of the plastic surgery. She wants to earn some extra money to repay her debt. NAM has found her a product promoter job. She runs into her parents, WAI HUNG and TSZ YIN, when she is working. KING dines at CHAU’s restaurant. She goes home to find LUNG’s friends there. She tells them she and LUNG are applying for a divorce. LIK tells KEI he has contact the King of Parallel Imports, who has lost a large quantity of cosmetics in a shipwreck. KEI is buying an evening dress at a prestigious shop when she gets a call telling her the parallel importers have cancelled their bookings.

Ep. 12: Episode 12
LIK has lunch with KEI. KEI suspects it was YAU who leaked the information to WU so as to revenge for KING. WU is being amicable to YAU suddenly. She evens claims she will give KING a helping hand. KEI bumps into DOWAGER LAFA and is inspired by her. KEI, who is sexily dressed, goes to a bar. She kisses LIK. The two then spend the evening together. LIK suggests that they start over again. NAM wants to cheer YAU up by creating a new image for her. YAU visits TONY. He hopes they can be lovers again. KING tells YAU someone is giving her a job offer. She is just about to sign the contract when LIK appears to stop her. It is indeed LUNG’s ploy. KEI blames YAU for telling WU their marketing plan.

Ep. 13: Episode 13
KEI explains what make her come to this conclusion. KEI fires YAU despite NAM’s explanation. KING hires YAU right away. KING’s lip balms are selling very well. Everybody is busy with the delivery arrangement. WU prevents them from taking the goods to the transport department. TIM wants to patch up NAM and YAU. The delivery forms have been messed up. YAU believes someone has come to their department at lunch time. In order to deliver the goods in time, KING pretends to be pregnant. KEI finds out about MAN’s affair by accident. MAN and WU are flirting with each other when his wife shows up out of the blue.

Ep. 14: Episode 14
WU finds it not fair for someone as outstanding as LIK to partner with KEI. KEI retorts that working with NAM is just as fine to her. Both KEI and LIK want to use KIMURA, the Japanese heartthrob, to promote their products. Although KEI manages to approach KIMURA’s agent first, she is turned down right away. Meanwhile, KING shows up. Later at a meeting, KING announces her plan of promoting the masks by her other brand, Vikki. She decides to use YAU in the product’s TV commercial. MAN blows up as soon as he learns that WU and KEI are launching their products on the same day. There is nothing he can do about it but to let them have a good fight. KIMIRA turns up at WU’s press conference, while KEI stands in the empty hall on her own.

Ep. 15: Episode 15
LIK proposes to KEI but she does not want to marry him at her low ebb. Having taken on a sexy image, YAU shoots to stardom overnight. She is so hot that some shops increase their orders so as to get more of her free posters. YAU has bought many presents for her parents. To her huge disappointment, not only do they treat her very coldly but even blame her for being snobbish. Rumors have it that Vikki’s masks are produced by the same manufacturer as the brand that WU is in charge of. The sales of WU’s brand rockets. The head office is investigating KING. She does not say anything about her suspicion on KEI though. KING faints. The guilty-stricken KEI goes to visit her at the hospital but to no avail. KEI returns the ring to LIK, claiming she will tell MAN everything the next day.

Ep. 16: Episode 16
MAN announces that KEI has been promoted senior brand manager. On the other hand, he is going to give more funding to KING for her brand’s repackaging and marketing. YAU is molested by some customers when she is selling beer. NAM goes to her rescue, only resulting in her getting fired. There are complaints that KEI’s products cause infections. YAU is the spokesperson for KING’s new product. At the launching press conference, the media asks YAU whether she had undergone a plastic surgery. KING sees CHAU quarreling with a woman. She did not know until then that he used to own a supermarket chain. YAU is hurting herself. NAM ties her up before informing the others. After some discussion, they decide to tell the public the truth.

Ep. 17: Episode 17
KEI’s investigation shows that the infections were made artificially and had absolutely nothing to do with her products. MAN sacks WU, the mastermind. LIK and NAM chill out at a bar. LIK is surprised to hear that YAU is the reason why NAM is so upset. KEI is determined not to have babies. She falls out with LIK over this. KING refuses to accept the baby products LUNG has bought. She tells CHAU the reasons. MAN announces that a Chinese corporation is injecting in the company and that it will appoint either KING or KEI to be the CEO of Asia-Pacific. Whoever wins the dealership of Korean brand San Sam will be promoted.

Ep. 18: Episode 18
NAM plucks up enough courage to express his love for YAU. She however believes he is only trying to dissuade her from partnering with a famous artiste agent. LIK’s parents plan to close their business in Singapore and move back to Hong Kong. KEI invites them to live with LIK and her. KEI puts forward a marketing proposal to their Korean clients MR and MRS KIM. KING appears just when KEI has finished. She is about to speak when she goes into labor. MR and MRS KIM like KEI’s proposal. LIK is very angry to find out that KEI is taking contraceptive pills. KEI suggests trying surrogacy. LIK has set his mind on NA. To his surprise, KEI fully supports his idea.

Ep. 19: Episode 19
KEI and KING put forward another proposal to MR KIM. MR KIM likes KING’s proposal better. CHAU calls and tells KING her son is nowhere to be seen. Later, the police find the baby in a park. LUNG believes KING will not make a good mother. He and his mother take away the baby. NAM and YAU dine with HUNG and YIN. YAU suggests her parents to close their vegetable stall, saying that she will take care of them. No sooner has she finished than YIN goes into a fit of anger. MAN complains about the drastic drop in YAU’s popularity. KEI grasps the opportunity to promote her marketing plan. LIK runs into WU at a bar. He learns from her about KEI’s recent evil doings. With LIK’s help, YAU is reconciled with her parents. The media widely reports on this.

Ep. 20: Episode 20
KEI shows LIK a test report, which suggests that her fibroma will reduce her chance of getting pregnant. GUOREN asks KEI and KING to give a speech at the company’s annual Asian ball to see who is more suitable for the post of CEO of Asia-Pacific. KEI invites KING to dinner, during which she tells KING she will not compete with her. YAU is taking part in a movie soon. She injures her nose when she is rehearsing with NAM. At the clinic, he expresses his love for her again. TAK informs KING LUNG has found out about her meeting with their son. LUNG and CHAU rush to Lantau Island to save her son. She therefore cannot make it to the annual ball. KEI is the first one to speak. NIK is shocked to find her proposal very similar to KING’s. Everyone is taken aback when she suggests dismissing the marketing department of the Hong Kong branch.
