Synopsis
An intense portrait of a group of animals that we demonize and are currently in the process of wiping out. Without cages, Christina films tiger sharks, reef sharks, and hammerhead sharks. She meets people who study sharks, who help them, or who have been injured in encounters with them. "Among Sharks" portrays the animals neither as monsters nor as cuddly pets, but as what they are: fascinating creatures with a central role in the marine ecosystem.

Christina Karliczek Skoglund meets the legendary diver Cristina Zenato, who has removed over 400 fishing hooks from the mouths of sharks. No sooner are the two underwater than a completely unknown shark seems to be specifically seeking Zenato's help. Can sharks relay information and deliberately seek out places where they can receive assistance? The underwater camerawoman also ventures into the presence of the fearsome tiger shark – one of the most powerful predators in the oceans. And she meets surfer Kenji Nonaka, who lost a leg in a shark encounter. What effect does such an experience have on a person?

Far out in the Pacific Ocean off Hawaii, Christina Karliczek Skoglund wants to film what are perhaps the most enigmatic sharks of all: hammerhead sharks. Together with marine biologist Florian Graner, she embarks on a risky dive to a depth of over 40 meters – at a remote, difficult-to-access dive site with strong currents. They want to document a behavior that has never been recorded there before. Will they succeed? And the great white shark also poses a mystery: off the coast of South Africa, these animals have completely disappeared from some regions. Do orcas play a crucial role in this?
