Iris, a teacher, very rarely agrees with others. She systematically challenges the consensus, and the people around her are growing increasingly fed up with her. She promised Claude, her boyfriend, that she would be “very normal” at the dinner planned for that evening at her brother’s house. But after a meeting with a publisher to discuss her first book, she has other things on her mind. Iris arrives at the dinner having forgotten her promise...

In search of inspiration, Iris goes to write alone at the country house of Catherine, her publisher. Not so alone after all, since Tom, Catherine’s husband, is there too. Iris returns from her stay feeling at peace, but between a child who accuses her of theft, a birthday party that turns into an olfactory apocalypse, and Claude drifting away, the problems start all over again...
