Synopsis

Majestic mountains, picturesque rivers, mysterious forests and dreamy coastal landscapes – Germany is more than an industrial nation. A fascinating habitat for rare flora and fauna stretches from the North-Frisian “Wattenmeer” to the Berchtesgadener Alps. In four episodes, Germany’s best wildlife camera teams focus on the unique behavior of animals such as wolves, black storks, red deer and grey seals. The series shows the natural wonders of “Wild Germany” as you’ve never seen them before.

This episode takes a bird’s eye view of Germany’s coasts, the North and Baltic, coastlines and islands in astonishing, brilliant pictures.
Ep. 2: Mountains (2012-01-10)

This episode shows unique insights into Germany’s mountain world, travelling from Saxonian Switzerland to the Palatinate Forest, from the Harz to the Alps.
Ep. 3: Forests (2012-01-17)

Shrouded in myth and legend, the forests of Germany are world famous, thanks to the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. This episode reveals the strange creatures that actually live there. A lynx out hunting, red deer stags roar to call their harems together, wild boar forage in dead leaves looking for nuts. When one considers how densely populated it is, Germany is home to a surprising number of different species. Around one third of the country is covered in forest. Forests enters a world full of magic and shows the secretive inhabitants you won’t see when out for a walk.
Ep. 4: Rivers & Lakes (2012-01-24)

This final episode takes the viewer on a journey through the water world of Germany. In winter, the few ice-free surfaces are popular with waterfowl. Coots throng the source ponds of the River Havel, while above them white-tailed eagles gather for the hunt, as their prey swim openly beneath them. In Spring, the ice melts and the lakes and rivers awake from their winter torpor. Otters and beavers were once hunted mercilessly for their fur and eaten in periods of fasting. Today, both species are protected and their populations are recovering.
