Synopsis

During the Zhenyuan era, the accidental death of the Bai Ze goddess, who governed both human and demon realms, leads to chaos as demon beasts run rampant. Disguised as Zhao Yuanzhou, the demon leader Zhu Yan offers to form a demon-hunting bureau to help restore order. Wen Xiao, suspicious of Zhao Yuanzhou, joins the bureau along with her childhood friend Zhuo Yichen, skilled archer Pei Sijing, and the talented but timid doctor Bai Jiu. Together, they confront the creatures from "The Classic of Mountains and Seas" and uncover the darker truths behind the chaos.

In the aftermath, humans are told of Zhao Yuan Zhou's heroic sacrifice, and people amongst themselves start to understand that demons are not all evil and humans aren't all good. Wen Xiao, Zhuo Yi Chen, and Pei Si Jing reunite briefly while still mourning their friends' sacrifices before going on missions of their own. Wen Xiao is returning to the Wilderness to guard it, Pei Si Jing is now in charge of the Demon Hunting Bureau, while Zhuo Yi Chen sets off to wander the world trying to locate a part of Zhao Yuan Zhou's soul that he extracted much like his ancestor Bing Yi did with Ying Long, giving his friends and himself hope of the great demon's return someday.
