Patlabor: The Mobile Police

Synopsis

In the future, rapidly advancing technology gives birth to giant robots known as "Labors," so named for their usefulness in heavy industry. However, this also gives rise to "Labor crimes," resulting the the need for a new branch of law enforcement equipped with and dedicated to the policing of Labors. When Izumi Noa, a female police officer, becomes the newest recruit of Special Vehicles Division 2, she and her top of the line "Patrol Labor" (or "Patlabor") Alphonse are swept into a series of adventures featuring crazed construction workers, eco-terrorists, and sea monsters.

Season 1 (1988)

At the end of the 20th century a massive building program is started due to rising sea levels. As part of this building program labor construction robots are built. These robots are not only used for construction though, the new technology also brings forth a new type of crime - Labor Crime. To cope with this new type of crime the police set up a Pat[rol] Labor division: "Special Vehicles, Section 2". What are the Members of the newly established Second Unit supposed to do? They've been ordered to apprehend a terrorist Labor -- and their new Labors are stuck in traffic en route from the factory!

With the impending shipment of three new labors stuck in traffic, the new recruits must make do with two older labors to defeat a formidable opponent who is terrorizing the town.

As the arrival date of the mayor of New York City draws near, the Labor unit, with the help of exchange officer Sgt. Kanuka Clancy, set up and prepare reinforcements for the impending attacks from the Terror networks who oppose the Babylon Project.

A creature from a genetic experiment escapes into Tokyo bay and its up to the Labors to put a stop to it's rampage.

During a routine hostage rescue, the recruits use excessive force and are punished by being sent back to the training academy.
Ep. 5: The SV2's Longest Day (1) (1988-11-10)

During the SV2's vacation, the Decisive Action Unit implements a siege on Tokyo.
Ep. 6: The SV2's Longest Day (2) (1988-12-10)

Goto sets forth a plan using the Labors and SV2 to deceive and out wit Mr. Kai and end his siege over Tokyo.

A truck carrying a mysterious container from Germany is smuggled into Japan. After it is stolen twice and heads across Japan, the SV2 are dispatched out to stop it. Who could be behind this? Is this just a random criminal act or is there something far more sinister in the works?
