Bake Off Japan (2022)
Synopsis
10 amateur bakers from Japan compete in three challenges per episode, baking sweets, pastries, cakes, and bread according to a theme or to the instructions of the two judges, who are themselves professional bakers. Every episode ends with the announcement of a Star Baker, the baker who performed exceptionally well that episode, and with an unfortunate (and usually tear-filled) elimination. At the end of the show, one very talented home baker is declared the winner.

Episodes:
-
Ep. 1: CAKE WEEK
Aiming for the title of “Japan’s Top Star Baker,” 10 amateur bakers selected from across Japan have gathered at the contest venue—a “tent.” Inside this single “tent,” they will give it their all as they take on three challenges. The theme of this historic first episode is "Cake." What kind of comments and advice will the judges offer on the 10 contestants’ uniquely creative cakes?
-
Ep. 2: PASTRY WEEK
The theme of Episode 2 is “Pastries.” The remaining nine bakers take on the challenge of creating pastries such as pies and tarts. Under the watchful eyes of the judges, the bakers showcase their original recipes and compete to prove their skills! In the “Technical Challenge,” the bakers tackle tart-making based on their recipes, but some admit, “I don’t know what the right answer is...” Will we see sweet cream puffs or bold, spicy pies emerge!? Will the judges’ evaluations be lenient or harsh?
-
Ep. 3: BREAD WEEK
In this episode, featuring eight bakers, the theme is Judge Ishikawa’s specialty: bread. The biggest challenge this time is managing the fermentation and baking within the allotted time. Will a single mistake prove fatal? Or will they pull off a spectacular transformation? The bakers will create original breads that are surprisingly unique in both appearance and taste!
-
Ep. 4: CHOCOLATE WEEK
The theme for the fourth episode is “Chocolate.” Since chocolate is sensitive to humidity and temperature, baking inside a tent set amidst the great outdoors poses a major challenge for the bakers! Struggling but giving it their all, the bakers set out to create original chocolate-themed desserts. Will the bakers, competing with their most creative ideas, come up with chocolate treats that surpass the judges’ wildest expectations?!
-
Ep. 5: BRITISH WEEK
Now that we’ve reached the midpoint of the season, this episode focuses on the show’s roots: Britain. The bakers take on unfamiliar British sweets, creating new British recipes that reflect their individual styles. With so many steps involved, the bakers are stretched to their limits… Will they be able to persevere and finish baking?
-
Ep. 6: DESSERT WEEK
The theme for this episode is “Dessert.” As the competition enters its second half, the bar for the recipes keeps getting higher. The remaining five bakers will put their unique ingredients and skills to work, using their expertise to create colorful desserts that will wow the judges.

Ep. 7: PATISSERIE WEEK
The theme for the semifinals is the challenging category of “Pâtisserie.” Four bakers remain. The bakers will take on classic French pastries with their very best original recipes as they compete for a spot in the finals.
-
Ep. 8: FINAL WEEK
After surviving a fierce competition spanning 21 rounds, three unique bakers take on a challenge that’s incredibly popular in Japan—one fit for the finals! Having grown through the advice of the judges so far, these three contestants are now vying for the title of Japan’s top star baker!
