Orange Roughies (2006)
Synopsis
The show centres around four main characters who are members of an elite New Zealand taskforce based in Auckland NZ, intended to be a combination of police and customs officers. Despite being an elite force, they are, as their commander Ron Maddock reminds them, under-funded, under-resourced and under the hammer. Because of this, the Roughies (as they are called) have to make sure that they perform exceptionally well to avoid being canned, as they are, after all, an experiment. Their members are: Detective Sergeant Danny Wilder, Senior Customs Officer Jane Durant, Detective Constable Zach Wiki and Noel Bullerton.

Ep. 3: Episode 3
When a routine underwater vehicle recovery turns fatal, secrets are revealed that place the future of the task force in jeopardy. Jane takes it upon herself to investigate a mysterious disappearance while at the same time dealing with pending custody issues.

The task force turn their attention to locating the missing woman, the unexpected reason for her disappeance and why no one seems to have noticed. To solve the case, the Roughies must shake down some modern pirates. Jane becomes Tao's foster mother and receives some welcome support from Danny.

Danny is upset when Ron makes Noel Bullerton a member of the task force on Jane's reccomendation. Jane and Danny are forced to put their differences aside when they take their girls on weekend away. The weekend takes a tragic turn when Jane responds to a distress call only to watch as a woman drowns after her boat sinks after capsizing. The recovery of the boat leads to a surprising discovery leading the Roughies to a poaching operation.

The attempt to get Tao permanent resident status fails and the case draws the attention of a private investigator working for David Chambers, a key figure in the child sex trafficking ring who is looking to take care of loose ends. Meanwhile, the task force investigates a bent Fisheries officer and take advantage of a battle between Ron and the accountants. Donna is crushed by the results of her fertility tests.

Ep. 7: Episode 7
Ron rallies the troops to support Jane as they deal with the fallout from her actions in pursuit of David Chambers. Tao's testimony secures a conviction but at the cost of being returned to China.
