In part 1 of this two-part TV miniseries, weather anomalies throughout the US signal the gathering forces that will converge on Chicago to create a catastrophic series of tornadoes. Meanwhile, excessive heat in the Chicago area puts pressure on the relationship between a regional electric utility and their biggest electric supplier, and a reporter tries to get a whistle-blower to go on the record about weaknesses in the grid.

In part 2, the finale of this TV miniseries, a well-intentioned hacker brings down the entire power grid of Chicago just as three major storm systems are converging on the city, making it impossible to send out emergency alerts. Midwest Power struggles to bring the grid back on online, news services cooperate with the National Weather Administration to get the word out to an oblivious city population, and a whistleblower turned hacker must try to reverse the damage he unwittingly caused.
