Letting Go (1992)
Synopsis
Ten years ago, divorced woman Li Zhijun remarried Jian Yaoting. Zhijun's eldest daughter, Dong Ruojing, resisted her mother's remarriage and ran away to France. After a decade, Zhijun returns to Hong Kong with her boyfriend, Liu Yali, hoping to reconcile with her mother and seek her approval for her own marriage. However, their conflicting personalities lead to disharmony within the family upon Ruojing's return. After going through various difficulties, Ruojing and Yali finally become a couple. During the wedding, Ruojing's biological father appears, resolving the long-standing issues between her and Zhijun. However, due to misunderstandings, a major conflict arises between the mother and daughter. In her anger, Ruojing decides to return to Paris to continue her life...

Ep. 1: Episode 1
YU SAN prepares for her wedding ceremony which will be held in Canada with MAN HONG. She plans to settle down in Canada. However, she worries a lot for her Mum, CHI KWAN. She thus strongly persuades her elder sister, YU CHING, comes back to Hong Kong so as to reconcile with her mother. In fact, CHING's father has left the family without a word when CHING was fifteen. KWAN then married another business man, KIAN YIU TING. CHING is very angry with her Mum who has married again. CHING then left home and followed a man to France, The mother and daughter relationship thus worsened. SAN has made everything ready for CHING to come back. KWAN pretends that she does not care at all, in fact, she has also prepared everything for CHING to come back home. The old servant, UNCLE KWAI, treats SAN as his own daughter. CHING meets UNCLE KWAI who has lost his way when she is on her way home. Though they cannot recognize each other, CHING takes good care of KWAI. Thus, CHING has left a good impression on KWAI's mind. CHING and KWAN are both stubborn and wayward, therefore, conflicts arise when they are preparing the wedding ceremony. SAN feels very unease. CHING avoids to make SAN feel embarrassed, she thus suppresses her dissatisfaction with her mother. CHING will negotiate with her mother after SAN has left Hong Kong. ALEX and CHING are as closed as the husband and wife. However, they understand that KWAN would not accept such relation. They thus try their best to keep away from each other. They hope to have their formal wedding after KWAN has accepted ALEX. SAN and MUI deliberately arrange a barbecue so as to bring CHING and KWAN together. BETTY loves KWOK HEI wholeheartedly. However, Betty is just a stupid girl in HEI's mind. Therefore, no matter how BETTY treat HEI, HEI is not interested in her. BETTY feels very sad about that. There is a new young female lecturer, FONG YEE, in the University. HEI is attracted by her beauty and eventually falls for her. he deliberately acquainted with her intimately and does what she like. HEI and YEE have many chances to contact each other. They are also intimately acquainted with each other. HEI wants to express his love by a love letter, but he is not brave enough to send YEE the letter. KWAN arranges to take photo for the whole family. Unexpectedly, HEI meets YEE who has fainted in the street when he is on the way to the studio for photo-taking. HEI ignores the limited time and brings YEE home. KWAN is very dissatisfied. UNCLE KWAI has become melancholy after SAN had left Hong Kong. KWAN consoles KWAI. KWAN by chance discovers that CHING has bought a flat and thinks that CHING does not respect her at all and is intended to conceal the truth from her. KWAN then questions CHING. Quarrels thus arises between the two. With TING and ALEX's mediation, they eventually could suppress their anger. ‧ When CHING is packing her old belongings, she discovers that her Mum has kept some commemorated stuffs for her. ALEX hopes to adopt himself to the Hong Kong lifestyle and play mahjong in the mahjong house. He eventually loses a lot of money. ALEX was born and bred in France, therefore, he does not understand the Chinese courtesy and decorum and thus makes a lot of fun. ALEX feels that he and CHING have no time to stay alone, therefore, he has booked a room in a hotel to talk with each other. He also takes‧ this opportunity to woo CHING. Unexpectedly, CHING had just got the news that KEI has committed suicide for love. SHE immediately goes to comfort KEI and breaks the appointment with ALEX. CHING has not returned home for the whole night and she is reluctant to explain. KWAN thinks that CHING has some connection with other men. KWAN's heart disease breaks out in a towering anger. She is then being sent to the hospital. With KEI's explanation, ALEX eventually knows that he has misunderstood CHING. He then forgives CHING-.

CHING and TANG stay with KWAN all night long in the hospital. The stepfather and daughter, TANG and CHING, could also take this opportunity to reconcile with each other. When KWAN wakes up, she had found out that CHING has concerned her all along and is greatly affected. The whole family is happily together. ALEX takes this opportunity to woo CHING. CHING claims that she would only promise to marry ALEX with her Mum's consent. KWAN agrees. HEI goes to pay YEE a New Year's call. He encounters YEE's ex-husband, JOHNNY, who is troubling YEE and asks YEE to restore their old relation. HEI helps YEE to get rid of JOHNNY. In fact, JOHNNY has left YEE without a word years ago. This has made YEE very sad. YEE could eventually control her emotion and concentrate on her educational job. However, her ex-husband bothers her after so many years. She feels very annoyed with him. KWAN thinks that CHING does not take her advice and decides to settle down overseas all by herself. KWAN makes some ironical remarks on CHING. CHING holds a birthday party to please KWAN. Later, the misunderstanding has been put down after CHING's explanation. HEI's friend YIU MING has great talent for singing. HEI is willing to play music for MING during the singing competition. KWAN worries that HEI would neglect his study, therefore, she opposes him. With YEE and CHING's encouragement, HEI will fight for his goal. HEI and MING are failed in the competition. They are very disap?pointed. With YEE's consolation, their confidences have been recovered. BETTY sees that HEI and YEE are intimate and thinks that they have fallen in love with each other. BETTY then warns YEE. YEEunderstands HEI and explains that she will not fall for HEI. HEI knows that YEE wants to let a flat and arranges her to let KWAN's house.… ...

When CHING is preparing her wedding ceremony, KWAN hands over CHING an old goodbye letter which is-left by WAI YIP, CHING's flesh and blood father, and claims that there is no correspondent address. CHING questions KWAN why his father left home, KWAN is reluctant to disclose her the reason. ALEX tries to search for the Chinese traditional wedding customs. However, he has made a mess instead. Everybody burst with laughter. CHING sends a telex to his real father and invites him to her wedding. It's a pity that his Dad has no time to attend and CHING is very disappointed. CHING then invites TANG to be the affiance. TANG is very happy. YIP has changed his mind and comes to Hong Kong to attend the wedding. CHING takes the opportunity to investigate why her Dad has left them. KWAN eventually tells them the truth that YIP has got a mistress. She does not want to spoil their father's image and thus does not tell them the truth.… ...

TANG, in accordance with the natural tendency, invites YIP to be the affiance. When KWAN meets YIP, the situation is very embar?rassed. However, they pretend that there are nothing embarrassed for not spoiling the atmosphere. During the wedding night, CHING and ALEX are so missed the family that they could not sleep. They even bring some snacks home to stay with the family, YEE is forced by the tenant to move out. YEE is then compelled to live in JOHNNY's home temporarily. JOHNNY coerces YEE to restore their couple relation. Meanwhile, HEI arrives and misunderstands that JOHNNY has insulted YEE and quarrels with him. He has hurted JOHNNY in confusion. They are then being sent to the police station. HEI is so depressed that he quarrels with the family. CHING persuades and comforts HEI with her own experiences.… ...

CHING is so heart-broken that she decides to settle down in France. The misunderstanding between the mother and the daughter could not be solved. In fact, CHING is reluctant to leave her mother again. However, both of them are stand so firm that they will not say sorry to each other. It thus worsens their relation. CHING has appointed a solicitor to transfer all her properties to KWAN. CHING even tells KWAN that she is not angry with KWAN but she only does not know how to make compromise with her. KWAN feels sour hearted. KWAN is awakened by SAN and knows that she is too strict to CHING. KWAN will then change her attitude after introspection. YEE backs to school. HEI has awakened and takes the initiative to explain YEE his attitude. Misunderstanding between the two thus disappears. Half a year later, KWAN has heard the news that CHING has miscar?ried the baby in France. She immediately goes to France to take care her.… ...
