Biography

Peter de Rosa (1932–2024) was a British author, former Catholic priest, and theologian. He is best known for Vicars of Christ, a bestselling and controversial history of the papacy that was highly critical of the Catholic Church. After leaving the priesthood in 1970, he became a writer and BBC producer, focusing on religion, history, and church reform.
