Biography
Prithviraj Sukumaran (born October 16, 1982) is an acclaimed Malayalam actor, director, producer, and playback singer, known for seamlessly balancing stardom with critically acclaimed performances. Making his debut at 19 in Nandanam (2002), he quickly rose to prominence as one of the most versatile and daring actors of his generation. Through the 2000s, Prithviraj delivered a string of memorable films such as Vellithira (2003), Swapnakoodu (2003), Vellinakshatram (2004), Ananthabhadram (2005), Classmates (2006,Highest grossing Malayalam movie at time of release), Vaasthavam (2006), Chocolate (2007), Thalappavu (2008), Thirakkatha (2008), Puthiya Mukham (2009,Catapulted Prithviraj to Superstardom) , Robin Hood (2009), Thanthonni (2010), Pokkiri Raja (2010) and Anwar (2010), showcasing his ability to shift between commercial and experimental cinema. He later headlined some of Malayalam cinema’s biggest hits and acclaimed dramas: Urumi (2011), Indian Rupee (2011), Ayalum Njanum Thammil (2012), Mumbai Police (2013), Memories (2013), 7th Day (2014), Sapthamashree Thaskaraha (2014) , Ennu Ninte Moideen (2015), Amar Akbar Anthony (2015), Anarkali (2015), Paavada (2016), Ezra (2017), Koode (2018), Driving Licence (2019), Ayyappanum Koshiyum (2020), Jana Gana Mana (2022) and The Goat Life (2024), among others. Outside acting, Prithviraj has proven his mettle as a filmmaker with the hit Lucifer (2019), starring Mohanlal, which became one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest boxoffice successes. He owns a production banner, Prithviraj Productions which continues to back ambitious projects. With over two decades in cinema, a National award, multiple Kerala State Film Awards, and a filmography that bridges commercial blockbusters and auteur driven cinema, Prithviraj Sukumaran stands as one of the defining forces of contemporary Malayalam cinema.
